**Extract E (line 9) states: ‘a growing population is increasing the demand for dental care.’** 

**Explain how the increasing demand for dental care is likely to affect the market for dentists. (10 marks)**

Demand is the number of goods and services that people are willing and able to buy at each given price. The market for dental care and the market for dentists are related. In this case, the demand for dentists is derived from the demand for dental care.

As the population increases, there are more people who are willing and able to pay for dental care at each given price. Therefore, there is an increase in the demand for dental care. This leads to an increase in the equilibrium quantity and the equilibrium price for dental care.

In the market for dental care, there is an expansion along the supply curve, due to the profit motive. This means that firms need more factors of production to raise output. This causes an increase in demand for dentists. This causes the equilibrium quantity and the equilibrium wage to go up in the market for dentists.
